Outdoor Post-Wedding Adventures in Montana for the

Thrill-Seeking Couples

Explore Glacier or Yellowstone National Park

Okay, first things first—you HAVE to check out Montana’s national parks. Glacier National Park and Yellowstone National Park are both mind blowingly beautiful. If you’re looking for the Ultimate Guide to Post-Wedding Adventures in Montana, these parks offer it all—rugged mountain landscapes, crystal-clear lakes, and some of the best hiking trails in the world.

Glacier is known for its untouched wilderness, and hiking there feels like stepping into a painting. I’ve shot a few weddings there and it was AMAZING! Check out this day after session I took in Glacier National Park! Glacier is located near the Flathead Valley so it's perfect for those who are having their wedding in the Kalispell area. When it comes to the park itself, Hidden Lake Overlook is a must for jaw-dropping views, and you can even spot wildlife like mountain goats and bighorn sheep along the way. You can also experience the iconic Going to the Sun Road which is known for its incredible views as you drive along the mountainside.

When it comes to the southwest part of the state, Yellowstone will steal your heart with its geothermal wonders—think hot springs, bubbling geysers, and breathtaking waterfalls like Fairy Falls and experience Old Faithful first hand. And man is it a sight to see. These parks are perfect if you want to create memories in some of the most scenic places that Montana has to offer. Bring your close family and friends along for your post-wedding adventure or just make it an adventure for the two of you! I won’t tell who you choose and who you don’t choose to invite!

If you're in Missoula, make sure to visit the Rattlesnake Wilderness, a hidden gem just a short drive from downtown. It’s the perfect spot for hiking and wildlife watching, and the scenery is straight-up breathtaking. The Rattlesnake National Recreation Area is ideal for couples who love the outdoors but want to stay close to Missoula’s amenities and their amazing places to eat. Get your hiking boots on and head out for a peaceful day in the mountains!

Picture this: you, your love, and a perfect Montana sunrise or sunset, all wrapped up in your wedding attire. How romantic is that? Avalanche Lake and Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park are two of the most serene spots you’ll ever experience, offering stunning views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Get some elopement style photos done by your girl or even just visit this breathtaking place for your Post-Wedding Adventures in Montana after all of your wedding events are over!

If you're near Bozeman, Sacagawea Peak is a gorgeous sunrise destination, and the view from the top is totally worth the climb. Plus, Beartooth Pass will give you panoramic views of jagged peaks and valleys—an unforgettable spot for those picture-perfect wedding portraits. I mean you are spending all this time here for your wedding so you might as well get the most out of it, right?! Looking for more photos from Glacier? Check these out!

Another amazing place to explore down in Bozeman is Hyalite Canyon! This recreation area has so much to see from its rocky peaks to viewing wildlife and fishing. There is also three campground and two day use areas that make this place easy to enjoy during your Post-Wedding Adventure!

Horseback Riding Through the Mountains

Want to feel like a true cowboy or cowgirl? Montana is home to some of the best horseback riding experiences, and it’s a must-do for your Post-Wedding Adventure. Jake’s Horses in Big Sky offers guided rides through the iconic Big Sky terrain, where you’ll trot along trails surrounded by the magnificent Gallatin Mountains.

This is a great way to go off the beaten path and see what’s beyond what you can see from the road! For a more secluded experience, head to Swan Mountain Outfitters in Glacier, where you’ll be guided through Glacier’s breathtaking backcountry. There’s something truly magical about horseback riding through the untamed wilderness, and trust me, you’ll never forget it. This is great for those of us who can’t decide where to go or want to take the planning and thinking out of your adventure. It’s your special adventure! Let someone else deal with the planning!

Boat Ride on Flathead Lake

After all the hiking, rafting, and horseback riding, it's time to relax with a peaceful boat ride on Flathead Lake. This stunning, crystal-clear lake is the largest natural freshwater lake in the western U.S., and its surrounding views are unreal. Renting a boat with Flathead Lake Boat Rentals or with NW MT Adventures and going on a guided tour is the perfect way to spend a tranquil afternoon, with the chance to spot wild horses at Wild Horse Island State Park. And you might be wondering how horses got to this island... but I don't know the answer so you'll just have to go and find out!

Soak in Natural Hot Springs

After all the action, treat yourself to some serious relaxation in one of Montana’s natural hot springs. Chico Hot Springs and Quinn’s Hot Springs are famous for their mineral-rich waters and cozy, mountainous vibes and are a great way to spend your Post-Wedding Adventures in Montana.

You’ll feel your wedding-day stress melt away as you soak in these hot springs surrounded by mountain views. You can even rent a room and stay awhile… I’ve been and it's quite fun! If you’re craving a more private experience, try Norris Hot Springs or Boiling River in Yellowstone—both are tucked away in peaceful spots where you can just chill and unwind. These hot springs will help you hit that reset button after all the wedding whirlwind.

Stay in a Cozy Cabin or Luxury Lodge
